The benefits of working as an international student

Working as a college student, especially as an international student, is a great opportunity to learn real-life skills, immerse yourself in local life, and of course, to make some cash. Here are some benefits of working as an international student in the US, along with the requirements.
Working in the US as an International Student: Benefits

Build your resume
You can use your student work experience in the US to build your resume.
Applying for jobs in the US or outside of the US will be easier when you already have work experience during college.
Practice English
Any position, especially a customer service role, will make you speak with locals. You’ll learn vocabulary and ways of speaking that your English classes won’t teach you.
Improve Social Skills
Student jobs teach you to communicate with colleagues, clients, and managers.
You will bring these skills to future roles, be it research positions, professional roles, and daily life interactions.
You can practice these skills now, as a college student, and learn communications lessons in a low-stakes environment.
Carry Responsibility
A student job teaches you to manage your time around work and school.
You’ll learn to show up well and on time. Your student job will involve responsibility. You may need to cater events, keep facilities clean, or check students into housing.
Build Community
Make friends
Student jobs mean regular shifts with your coworkers, often at your school and same age.
This is a great environment to have a fun coworker situation, and possibly even make friends.
Gives you an anchor point
As an international student, you are far from home and the people you grew up around. Working gives you a regular place to be, with a team that may care about you as a person.
Your part-time job can give you stability and a sense of purpose while you adapt to a new country.
Community Figure
If you have a public-facing role on or off campus, you may become a vaguely yet pleasantly recognized person on campus.
If your work has a positive role in your community, you may find the job genuinely makes you happy!
Earn Money
No matter your financial situation, earning some money for yourself is beneficial.
You’ll learn financial responsibility, maybe get help opening a bank account (which can be tricky in a new country), and earn money that you can use for tuition, housing, groceries, or fun things.

Don’t work illegally. The US is strict about this, and you don’t want to put your future at risk.
It is often hard to find work as an international student
Don’t be too hard on yourself, and give yourself time to find something that legally works with your visa requirements.
Reputable job sources
Make sure to get your jobs from reputable sources
Start with campus jobs or jobs near campus that you can easily verify
No job is worth your safety
If you feel unsure about a job or offer’s legitimacy, bring the issue to a trusted person at your school.
Check the location of in-person interviews before going to verify the neighborhood, and tell a trusted friend where you will be.
Working in college as an international student has its challenges: from ensuring visa requirements are met to finding suitable work, it is not always simple. Also note that finding work may get easier or harder depending on political situations in the US. That being said, working as a student has immense benefits. Student jobs let you join a community, build skills, and bring your resume to new levels.
As an international student, you will likely find that having US-work experience helps you find work after graduation. Your student job will cement your English skill, teach you how to work with clients and coworkers, and show future employers time-management and teamwork skills.
Overall, consider taking a part-time job as an international student! It may open more doors than you expected.
